Want to Lose Weight? Stop Trying to Lose Weight.
There’s a story about a Chinese finger trap — you’ve probably seen one.
It’s a simple woven tube. You slip your fingers into each end, and when you try to pull them out, the trap tightens.
The harder you pull, the tighter it grips.
Instinctively, you think the answer is to try harder. To pull with more force.
But the solution is counterintuitive: you need to push inward, not outward. Loosen your effort, lean into the trap, and it releases.
The first time you experience this, it feels strange — almost illogical.
But it’s a perfect metaphor for what I want to share with you today.
Because if you’ve been trying hard to lose weight, and it feels like the harder you try, the more trapped you become, you are not imagining it.
This is exactly how the weight loss trap works.
And the way out is not to pull harder.
It’s to stop pulling altogether.
