What a beautiful analogy! I also like how you suggest to "teach the habit" before you really need it, that's were we often go wrong. We know what we should be doing, but because we haven't practiced it before, it is difficult to reach for it when stressed. Thank you for another great post!

Wonderful analogy of elephants' instinctual behavior. I've been journaling for several years to understand how my emotions and learned responses use up so much of my energy during challenging moments.

We must remember that animals were created with instinct, humans with free will. Sometimes it would appear to be beneficial to have the instincts of animals, with no thinking involved. (Sigh) However, the gift of free will is indeed a gift.
