It started with five minutes.
Not five minutes of cardio.
Not five minutes of productivity.
Just five minutes of sitting still.
No goal. No app. No pressure to feel anything profound.
Just me, my breath, and the discomfort of stopping.
And yet… that moment became the first brick in the foundation of the healing life I live now.
This wasn’t a productivity hack or a motivational surge. It wasn’t about checking a box or becoming a “better version” of myself.
This was something else entirely.
This was healing.
The Moment Everything Shifted
I used to think transformation came from doing more. More checklists, more self-discipline, more willpower. But no matter how much I did, something always felt off.
I was helping others heal. But I was ignoring the subtle signs that I wasn’t rooted in my own stillness.
Then one morning, I remembered a line from Jon Kabat-Zinn:
“Like it or not, this moment is all we really have to work with.”
So I sat. Five minutes. No agenda. No goal. Just noticing.
That five minutes didn’t change my circumstances.
It changed my relationship to them.
What Is a Healing Habit?
In the Habit Healers mindset, healing doesn’t begin with hustle.
It begins with awareness.
It begins with a pause.
A healing habit is any action—no matter how small—that reconnects you to your body, your breath, and your intention to live with more love, presence, and purpose.
It’s not about perfection.
It’s about presence.
The Science Behind That Five-Minute Shift
When we engage in mindfulness—even just for five minutes—we interrupt our brain’s default mode: autopilot.
Research shows that regular mindfulness practices increase activity in the prefrontal cortex (responsible for focus and reflection) and reduce reactivity in the amygdala (your stress alarm system).
Each time I returned to that tiny habit, I was reinforcing a new neural pathway. One that led away from urgency and toward groundedness. One that made space for intentional choices. One that didn’t require me to change everything overnight—but gave me the clarity to change what mattered most.
And even more fascinating?
The timing of that habit matters. A study showed that people who formed habits in the morning, when cortisol is naturally higher, achieved automaticity faster. That’s right—your biology is already rooting for your healing habits.
From Looping to Living
Here’s what I learned:
We don’t break habits by fighting them.
We break them by returning to awareness.
Again and again and again.
This is what we teach in the Habit Healer system.
This is what we live by.
“You are one healing habit away.”
Want to Try It?
Here’s your Habit Healer Practice:
Name it: Choose one micro habit that feels healing. Maybe it’s a 5-minute sit. Maybe it’s standing outside with your tea before the day begins. Keep it simple.
Anchor it: Tie it to something you already do (like brushing your teeth or brewing coffee).
Repeat it: Same time. Same place. Keep the promise to yourself—not to be perfect, but to show up.
You don’t need 30 days. You don’t need to be ready.
You just need one moment.
Because wherever you go… there you are.
And who you are is already whole, already worthy, and always one healing habit away.
You’re already closer than you think.
If this resonates, I’d love to invite you inside The Habit Healers Mindset’s Inner Circle.

Thank you. I tend to rush on to the next task, not fully appreciating the moments. I feel compelled to "keep busy," as if there is some sort of award at the end of the day, week, life. I needed this reminder to sit, open minded and open hearted.
I agree that pausing connects us to ourselves and our emotions and is healing ❤️🩹
